Blog Video Review

For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Through the Eyes of a Sculptor-it takes a lot of time to work on the specific piece because not only is it by hand but worked on in sections. The restoration of monuments is ongoing. By hitting the limestone we know it is good enough to use ad will not crack. Many sculptures are worked on at the same time separately. There are several kinds: marble, limestone, clay, bronze. Modeling is important! Drafting/sketching is a great way to actually design the piece. Also putting into consideration the following: how fragile it will be, resistant, indoor or outdoor? The piece has to be safe and strong enough to go onto the next step with may include clay molds. Plastering is the most intriguing part of the process and making sure it all fits just right!
Glass and Ceramics-Glass blowing is very interesting. Lump of molded glass is grabbed on the metal rod that is hollow. Then you have to blow into the rod until it becomes a bubble which shapes or hands can be used with newspaper. Glass is hardens as it cools and then reheated in furnace until the desired shape is complete. This reminds me of the Corning Museum of Glass Museum. There are demonstrations like this video. Stained glass is amazing by how it is made. Creating the stained glass is a process in itself. Each piece is cut separately and painted. Ceramics are made of a clay base and there are many types of ceramics. Temperature and quality of raw materials used come into play when creating ceramics. Materials such as felspars and quarts may also be used to create the plaster. Firing determines the finished model of the creative piece.
Installation Art-Art work takes over the space and truly designs it. This art surrounds you as the artist and as the viewer. Three dimensional artwork creates that unique feel of the artwork. Materials are used that may be placed ironically without even realizing it. Installation art is very specific to its location only. Some can be seen miles and miles aways while others are hard to pick out. This depends on the artist and how they truly want to displays their artwork. The setting of the installation is interacted to the viewer as an indifferent world. This is very interesting to take in and understand the whole concept. I think once I physically create one, I will know what to expect especially with the creative aspects of the design.

How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
They relate to the text by visually teaching the importance of sculptures, glass, ceramics and installation art. This chapter served a lot of terminology that was explained well but I enjoyed the videos because it gave life to the readings. Reading about all of the concepts is one thing but actually hearing and seeing the process makes it more real.

What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?
I believe that the films brought visual explanations and interest. I enjoyed all especially the sculpting since this is something that I always wanted to learn more about. The videos add depth to sculpture due to the intense processes. Installation is amazing to see visually through a video instead of seeing a photo or viewing it in a gallery. Craft is better understood by how the videos describe the feeling and inspiration of the artist. All add depth to the imagination of the artist and the viewer!
